May 26, Monday – Up into Georgia
After having the RV in one place for ten days, Hannah relieved me by driving it up the interstate for an hour. With Hannah on the helm it was nice to sit back and enjoy the scenery for the first time since Bob as on board. We headed for the Georgia coast and the barrier island. St. Marys and Crooked River State Park were our goals. After setting up base camp in the near empty place (after I’m sure a load three-day weekend of Memorial Day), we took the Jetta into the historic town and were transfixed by the mammoth live oaks and Spanish moss lining the main street down to the waterfront. Hannah and I knew we were in the right place when we saw a bumper sticker declaring, “Christianity has Pegan DNA.” We spent two hours prowling the streets and the National Park’s Visitor Center for this was the jump off port for Huge and famous Cumberland Island. The highlight of the day (judging from Hannah’s squeal) though had to go to a family of armadillos working their way across a yard belong to a 100 year old church.
