August 2, Sunday – Company

On Friday I parked the RV in a lot at the state park, took the Jetta and whipped on down through the bottom of Maine, across New Hampshire and into the southern part of Massachusetts to Massasoit State Park. Rather than driving down to Providence to pick up Melanie and drive back I broke the trip into two days.
As I stood with the other waiting folks near the baggage claim I noticed the chauffeurs lined up with small placards with their clients’ name printed on it. To welcome Melanie to the east coast I found a piece of cardboard and wrote “Hawkear” on it and joined the lineup. She got a good laugh seeing me standing there looking around as if waiting for an unknown person.
The trip back up to Freeport went so quickly with her in the car.
On Sunday we headed north to Acadia National Park. We averted a disaster. Why do these things always happen in at a gas station? As I was refueling Melanie said, “I’m going to the bathroom and use the ATM machine.” I heard the first part but not the second. I got in the driver’s seat and called back if she mind if I drove while she was in the bathroom. No answer so I started the RV because there was a car behind us wanting to gas up. But a man walked up to me and asked where in Washington I was from as I noticed the car behind me move to another island. The man had a brother in Mt. Vernon. As we ended our conversation I was totally surprise to hear the side door open and in came Melanie!! She wasn’t in the RV bathroom after all. If the man had not stopped to talk to me, I would have driven off without my company!!

Tuesday: We are now at the Canadian border! I will not be blogging on a regular basis due to the high cost of broadband. If I find a WiFi connection, I shall post. Bye for now. Ron
